Session at the SMM, Green Stage, Hall A 4, 3 September 2024, 12:40 - 13:20
Due to the stricter regulation of emission targets for shipping at international (IMO) and EU level (FuelEU Maritime, ETS, REDIII) it is now time to focus on their respective national and regional implementation. Therefore, global shipping now faces the immense challenge of implementing these regulatory requirements to become climate neutral by 2050.
What propulsion technologies and which fuels will play decisive roles? What role can cruise shipping play? Can it be a first mover again as proven with LNG? How can european container shipping stay globally competitive? Will we encounter a global race for green fuels, increasing competition from industrial offtakers and from other transport modes? How can we efford to produce enough synthetic and biofuels?
